Enjoy a variety of gentle walks along the Caledonian Canal towpath from Inverness.
Option 1 – Inverness to Dochgarroch Locks
This 7.5 mile walk starts at Tomnahurich Swing Bridge. Start your walk at the former Lock Keeper’s cottage (now a holiday home) and follow the towpath towards Dochgarroch. The towpath runs between the canal on the right and the River Ness to the left – there are usually plenty of boats and cruisers to see. Watch the boats going through the locks and Dochgarroch and enjoy a picnic in the picnic area. Cross over the canal at Dochgarroch Locks and return to Inverness on the far bank.
Option 2 – Inverness to Clachnaharry Sea Lock
Again from Tomnahurich Swing Bridge, take the towpath towards Clachnaharry. Watch the boats at Caley Marina and going through the locks at Muirtown Locks. Follow the towpath along Muirtown Basin to Clachnaharry Sea Lock, where the Caledonian Canal meets the sea. Enjoy views over the Beauly Firth. Cross the canal at the locks and return on the far bank.
