The towpath along the Caledonian Canal in Inverness is perfect for walkers, runners and cyclists.
The start of this circular walk is at the Tomnahurich Swingbridge in Inverness - free parking is available nearby at Inverness Leisure. However, for a shorter stroll, you can always join the walk at Muirtown Basin, where there is also parking available.
From Tomnahurich, walk towards Clachnaharry with Tomnahurich Hill on your right. The towpath is even and suitable for all abilities. On your way you can spot a variety of boats using the Canal and going through the locks at Muirtown, which you pass along the way.
After Muirtown swingbridge, the Canal opens up into Muirtown basin. Follow the path - be careful when crossing the railway line! - until you get to Clachnaharry sealock. Here boats leave the Caledonian Canal and sail out into the Beauly Firth. Walk right up to the point for amazing views!
Return on the other bank of the Canal after crossing over the lock gates.
