Craigvar is a distinctive house offering luxury accommodation and wonderful food. It was built in 1839 and has been offering hospitality more or less continuously ever since. Resident host Margaret Scott aims to give all guests a comfortable, enjoyable and memorable stay.
There is free, secure wifi internet access throughout the property and plenty of parking. Craigvar also houses a large amount of genealogical and research material relating to Strathpeffer and the parish of Fodderty.
Craigvar has 2 en-suite bedrooms both of which are exceptionally well appointed and there are many personal touches to make you feel at home: a welcoming decanter of sherry, fresh fruit, bathrobes and a refreshment tray.
Craigvar is in the centre of Strathpeffer, an outstanding conservation village 20 minutes drive north of Inverness.
Its location makes it an exceptionally good touring base from which to explore the Highlands and Islands. We are 45 minutes from Ullapool on the West Coast and an ideal day’s round trip could take in the majestic scenery of Wester Ross, including Skye, Plockton, Eilan Donan Castle, Inverewe Gardens and Gairloch.
There are also distilleries within easy reach and a close up view of oilrigs can be had at Invergordon on the Cromarty Firth. The Black Isle is a lovely half-day tour, taking in Fortrose, Rosemarkie and Cromarty. We are also less than 3 hours from John o’ Groats.
We are equally well situated for the nearby East Coast, with easy access to Inverness, Culloden Moor, Nairn, Cawdor Castle, Fort George and Loch Ness. We are also less than 3 hours from John o’ Groats.
