A great choice of Christmas Events around Inverness for all ages!
When the days shorten and the first snowflakes of winter start to fall, that’s the perfect time to start finding Christmas events around Inverness that you would like to go to. In fact, it’s time to investigate all the “christmassy” goings-on around our area! If you’re feeling seasonal, then Inverness is the place to be.
Christmas cheer kicks off in Inverness each year in November when the city’s Christmas lights were switched on. This tends to happen mid- to late-November, and the date changes slightly from year to year. More details can usually be found in the local press online.
The city will be busy of course with everyone looking for the perfect Christmas gift, but don’t forget you can find great one-off and unique gifts at one of our area’s Craft Fairs. Each year, renowned theatre Eden Court opens its doors to a craft fair. This popular special event is a brilliant place to find one-off and unique gifts. It tends to take place towards the start of December, and is advertised on Eden Court’s website.
Alternatively, you could try the Christmas Shopping Day & Craft Fair at Glen Ord Distillery near Beauly. To find out when this takes place each year, visit Glen Ord’s Facebook page and check out their events. One of the best things about this particular fair? It can be combined with a cheeky festive dram to keep warm!
Christmas Activities in Inverness
Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the panto and in Inverness, you always have a wonderful choice. For those unfamiliar with this very British tradition, a pantomime is nothing like a mime artist. In fact, it couldn’t be further from that! It’s a theatre performance mainly for children, where shouting at the performers is encouraged! See men dressed as old dames, women dressed as young boys, and everyone else as a donkey or wizard or princess or…you know what? You’ll just have to come along to one to really understand it!
Previous years in Inverness have seen Peter Pan take to the skies, and Babes in the Wood go on their adventures. You can discover the latest pantomimes happening at Eden Court and Florian’s Little Theatre near Bught Park on their websites.
For the adults Achnagairn Castle often hold tasting parties where you can sample some of their exquisite food from local sources. Check out the events section on the castle’s Facebook page for more.
Want to feel better about all the extra calories you are likely to consume over the festive season? Then why not join the Inverness Santa Run? Bring your elves (children) and reindeer (dogs) too!
