What’s on in the Highlands in 2018?
As a new year begins, our thoughts turn to upcoming events and what we can really look forward to. Well, here in the Highlands, there is plenty going on. From Skye to Fort William, or Drumnadrochit to Inverness there are once again many great Highland events and festivals to celebrate and enjoy here in the heart of Scotland. So let’s take a look at what’s on in the Highlands in 2018…
Ullapool Book Festival
11th – 13th May 2018
The Ullapool Book Festival was first held in 2005 and attracts some great authors to the event each year. But even if you are unable to make the festival, anyone with an interest in books should visit the Ceilidh Place Bookshop in Ullapool. We think it’s one of the best independent bookshops in Scotland and only 90 minutes drive from Inverness.
Belladrum Music Festival
1st – 3rd August 2018
As for the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, it’s another must. While other music festivals have come and gone over the years, Belladrum is the music festival in the Highlands to attend over the summer months. With music for all tastes, it is a family favourite for Invernessians. If you are staying overnight though, remember to bring your earplugs!
Etape Loch Ness
29 April 2018
And then there is Etape Loch Ness, a 66 cycling event around Loch Ness on closed roads. A fantastic event and this year the VisitInvernessLochNess team are doing it to raise funds for Macmillian Cancer Support.
Of course events and festivals are not for everyone and are only one thing to look forward to in the Highlands in 2018. More than anything else, what’s on in the Highlands in 2018 that we can all appreciate and look forward to is another year of magical sunsets, seeing amazing wildlife, being blown away by the beauty of our landscape and castles and discovering our own unique experiences to treasure.
