In January 2015 the then Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, announced that he had secured £2M for the international marketing of Inverness and Loch Ness by VisitBritain in key overseas markets over the next four years.
Since then, VisitBritain working closely with VisitInvernessLochNess and VisitScotland, have developed the initial programme for 2015/2016 focusing on activity in the US, France and the Netherlands.
