After three appearances for At One With Music the brilliant Slovenian violinist Lana Trotovsek returns to Inverness with her compatriot and equally brilliant flautist Boris Bizjak to play a one-off concert for musicinverness.
Both Lana and Boris are now based in London and have individually developed distinguished international careers. Twice Lana has played the solo concerto role with the Mariinsky Orchestra of St Petersberg under Valery Gergiev and in September 2016 she opened the Ljubljana International Festival performing the Prokofiev Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gianandrea Noseda.
Lana's latest CD, with the Catalan pianist Maria Canyigueral, of works for violin and piano by Granados, Franck, Finzi and Skerjanc has won a Gold Medal in the Global Music Awards 2016, and the Silver Medal was awarded to Boris for recording and production by his own record company, Hedone Records. He takes bonny photos and videos as well.
During 2016 Lana and Boris have been selected by the Slovenian Government to perform a series of concerts around the world, and hosted by Slovenian Embassies, to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Slovenian Independence, including one in Edinburgh's Canongate Kirk.
For their concert in the Performing Arts Studio at Inverness College UHI have put together a special programme featuring music from the 17th to the 21st centuries which is detailed below.
Lana plays on a violin made in 1750 by the Venetian maker Pietro Antonio dalla Costa and on loan from a private benefactor.
