Runners line up fo rthe Loch Ness Marathon
A Monster Race... running alongside the shores of the world's most famous loch

The monster is not the only long-running legend in the area, as Loch Ness is also home to one of the best marathons in the UK. It is the biggest in Scotland and it has taken place every Autumn since 2004. The entire course is rural, in a countryside setting offering some of the finest views of Loch Ness anywhere! Starting at Whitebridge the marathon route for much of the way follows the shoreline of South Loch Ness and finishes in Inverness.

Happy runners

The Loch Ness Marathon raises enormous amounts of money for charity, but whatever your reasons for running, it is truly amazing to see so many entrants on the start line willing to have a go and become part of the Loch Ness running legend either in the marathon or one of the associated running events. All events provide fantastic sights, challenges to suit various abilities, lots of fun, and the chance to achieve something memorable in one of the most famous parts of the world.

Many runners and their families and friends choose to make a holiday of it and come to stay for a week or more. It allows competitors to check out the route and get a bit of loch-side running practice in. there is excellent local accommodation to choose from along the route.
