1: Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival

Held on the Belladrum Estate near Beauly,the Tartan Heart Festival is famed for its family friendly atmosphere and bringing big name headliners to the highlands. Previous years have seen the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs, Manic Street Preachers, Tom Jones and Travis take to the stage for this August event, which has sold out for the last eight years and looks set to continue to do so - if you fancy being part of it you have to get in fast!

2: Inverness Film Festival

Taking place in the winter months, the Inverness Film Festival at Eden Court Theatre is a wonderful part of our area’s cultural calendar. Combining blockbusters and arthouse offerings as well as hosting the occasional premiere, the festival is a great excuse for film fans to visit the area – why not combine a short break for the festival with a bit of Christmas shopping Highland style?

3: Loch Ness Knit Fest

A new addition to the programme of local events, Loch Ness Knit Fest held its inaugural event in Inverness this year, and was well received by the crafting crowd. Offering a combination of courses and classes with demonstrations and craft shopping opportunities, as well as knit themed excursions to discover the area. 4: Inverness Street Theatre Festival

Taking place at various locations across Inverness over three days in October, the Street Theatre Festival brings performance to the people with free interactive shows in the city streets. Previous years have featured everything from racing grannies to giant dogs and escape artists to cool cowboys. Hosted by the Inverness BID Ltd. the event offers an opportunity to explore the city with a little extra entertainment added in.

5: Loch Ness Beer Festival

Hosted by the Benleva Hotel, just a short walk from the shores of the legendary loch, the Loch Ness Beer Festival is the longest running event of its kind in the Highlands. The event runs over several days in September and combines great ales with live music, quizzes and competitions making it a great choice for the sociable traveller looking to discover a little bit of local life.
