Inverness Loch Ness Locals: Cameron's Tearoom in Foyers

As part of our occasional series written about Inverness Loch Ness by the people who know it best – the residents, workers and veteran visitors – tearoom owner Morag Cameron tells us more about her passion for home baking and her why her tearoom has become THE place to stop over for cyclists on the South Side of Loch Ness…

Cameron's Tearoom - The perfect pit-stop for cyclists on South Loch Ness

In 2014 Morag realised her ambition to run her own business and opened Cameron’s Tearoom on Glenlia Farm in Foyers. All food is freshly made on site and in just two year Cameron’s Tearoom has become the number 1 rated tearoom in the Inverness area on Tripadvisor.

But it’s not just delicious home baking that makes Cameron’s Tearoom special, it’s also Morag’s special relationship with one particular group of customer – cycling clubs and cyclists!

Morag tells us –

“I have received fantastic support from the day I opened from cycling clubs and as word has spread I am now inundated on weekdays with retired folk - they call themselves “The Old Gits”! Then at weekends we get all the cycling clubs, who are very supportive and also visit us with their families when not in Lycra…

Cycling is now big business and cycling clubs tend to plan their cycle around a coffee stop. I am on all the clubs’ social media sites and therefore I am able to get a heads up as to whether there will be 6 or 26 cyclists coming along!

So far I have won two awards for “Café of the Year”, one from Ross-shire Roads and one from ICC Highland. The reason the clubs like the tearoom is because we always make cyclists feel welcome, the fire is on on cold days and of course there’s the lovely coffee, cakes and bacon rolls! We now proudly display local club cycle shirts at the tearoom.”

Morag also has plans to install a cycle rack for all her customers on two wheels.

She says “The clubs have inspired me to buy a road bike – I just need to find the time to get out on it!”
