Serious about walking!
Just like our visitors, most of us here in Inverness and around Loch Ness are quite outdoorsy and love nothing more than exploring our lochs and mountains on a grand weekend walk! For the more adventurous walker there are a number of impressive long distance walks to tackle, such as the famous Great Glen Way and the South Loch Ness Trail – and since spring 2015 there is a brand new long distance trail to explore, the Affric Kintail Way!
This new path takes you from Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness 44 miles across stunning scenery to Morvich in Kintail. The route takes in the beautiful Glen Affric and offers walkers everything that makes this area so special – impressive mountains, deep lochs, wildlife…and not to forget Loch Ness on one end of the trail and the stunning West Coast on the other with so much to explore! This trail is also suitable for mountain bikers.
And even if you have already done the Great Glen Way, there is a reason to come back and have another look – the new “High Route”! This new route opened in 2014 and takes walkers above the tree line between Fort Augustus and Drumnadrochit to enjoy some breathtaking views – if you’re looking for that perfect spot for your Great Glen Way selfie or group photo, you’ll definitely find it on the high route!
