3 Exciting Highland Events this 2018

What's on this 2018 in the Highlands ...

With 2017 drawing to a close it’s about this time that thoughts often turn to the New Year and what we can really look forward to. Well, here in the Highlands in 2018 there is plenty to look forward to. From Skye to Fort William, or Drumnadrochit to Inverness there are once again many great Highland events and festivals to celebrate and enjoy here in the heart of Scotland. So lets take a look at What’s on in the Highlands this 2018…

A full list can be found at https://www.visitscotland.com/see-do/events/ but three I’m really looking forward to are the Ullapool Book Festival, 11th -13th May http://www.ullapoolbookfestival.co.uk/ , Belladrum Music Festival 2nd-4th August http://www.tartanheartfestival.co.uk/ and Etape Loch Ness 29th April https://www.etapelochness.com/

Ullapool Book Festival

The Ullapool Book Festival was first held in 2005 and attracts some great authors to the event each year. But even if you are unable to make the festival I would urge anyone with an interest in books to visit the Ceilidh Place Bookshop (http://www.theceilidhplace.com/bookshop/ ) in Ullapool. In my opinion, one of the best independent bookshops in Scotland and only 90 minutes drive from Inverness.

Belladrum Music Festival

As for the Belladrum Music Festival, it’s another must. While other music festivals have come and gone over the years, Belladrum is the music festival in the Highlands to attend over the summer months. With music for all tastes, it is a family favourite for Invernessians. If you are my age though and staying overnight, just remember your ear plugs!

Etape Loch Ness

And then there is Etape Loch Ness, a 66 cycling event around Loch Ness on closed roads. A fantastic event and this year the VisitInvernessLochNess team are doing it to raise funds for Macmillian Cancer Support.

Of course events and festivals are not for everyone and are only one thing to look forward to in the Highlands in 2018. More than anything else what we can all appreciate and look forward to is another year of magical sunsets, seeing amazing wildlife, being blown away by the beauty of our landscape and castles and discovering our own unique experiences to treasure.
