Details

Plodda Falls Lodge is set in a truly unique location. Adjacent to Glen Affric National Nature Reserve, National Scenic Areas and Designated Wild Land - it is amidst some of the most spectacular scenery in the Highlands of Scotland.

Two miles further on from the Victorian Conservation village of Tomich, and along a mile of untarred track, Plodda Falls Lodge is set in seclusion close to the magnificent Plodda Falls. Both the Lodge and location are exceptional. You can walk in total peace that is uninterrupted by roads in any direction and for over thirty miles of unspoilt wilderness through Glen Affric and to the West Coast of Scotland.

Built in 1850, Plodda Falls Lodge once formed part of the historic Guisachan Estate, owned by Lord Tweedmouth, who was one of the most innovative Victorian Landowners. He created his totally self contained and unique model village, with its own home farm, brewery, bakery and sawmill, amongst others. Guisachan was the first private estate to have its own hydro scheme to generate electricity and Lord Tweedmouth created the Golden Retriever breed of dog.

Plodda Falls Lodge was the laundry to the estate and with the high ceilings, huge Douglas fir beams, window seats and magnificent fireplaces, it truly reflects that era.

The estate is planted with specimen trees and it was frequented by many of the rich, famous and royalty, indeed Winston Churchill learnt to drive at Guisachan. The Tweedmouth Monument, a memorial to Lady Tweedmouth, who was Winston Churchill's aunt, dominates the surrounding landscape.

Nature and wildlife is abundant with majestic golden eagles, buzzards, osprey, red and roe deer, red squirrels, badgers, otters, pine martin, rare dragonflies and more. This is a true haven for animal and nature lovers.

The fantastic glens of Affric, Cannich and Strathfarrar are all close by and offer superb sightseeing, nature watching, walking and mountain climbing. Yet the Lodge is only 35 miles from Inverness with its modern facilities and 12 miles from Loch Ness and Castle Urquhart, making it is accessible should you wish to travel further afield during your holiday.

At Plodda Falls Lodge we welcome well behaved dogs, and with the large garden, unsurpassed 'out of the door' walking and wood burning stove to return home to, makes it a superb location for your holiday.
