Billed as Scotland's Scenic Challenge and set amidst the stunning backdrop of the Glen Affric National Nature Reserve, the duathlon welcomes competitors of all ages and abilities. Not only will the experienced, even elite athlete find it challenging, but the environment also makes it a very rewarding experience for novices. All levels are encouraged to enter.
The race format consists of three stages: a 7.5 mile hill run followed by an 18 mile bike ride and finished off with a 2.5 mile cross country run.
The first run has a narrow river crossing (manned by Kintail Mountain Rescue team) before climbing 750ft to cross the spectacular viewpoint of Am Meallan then descending to return to transition by the private road alongside the River Affric.
The bike section (not suitable for road bikes) is an 18 mile loop starting out on public road before switching to forest tracks. This stage includes some steep sections - up and down!
The final run is 2.5 miles is set amidst the Caledonian Pines along the fast flowing section of River Affric.
The event is open to individuals, teams of individuals and 2/3 person relay teams.
The event benefits from electronic timing, medical backup, full course radio cover and lots of marshals.
The Glen Affric/Strathglass area is ideal for holidays and short breaks and has plenty of local accommodation. Why not make a long weekend out of the event?
